A DREAM BECOMES REALITY
In the Netherlands, we have always led busy lives with our own businesses. Maurice enjoyed running a car company for more than 32 years and Ien had her own studio as an independent interior designer for more than 15 years. We have always dreamed of a place with more peace and nature, where we could share our passion for cooking and hospitality with others. Passing through to Spain in 2022, we stopped by Corrie and Ron again for our stopover, who had been running Veï Lou Quéri for more than 20 years. Their chambres d’hôtes is one of our favorite places where we have always enjoyed vacationing with our children as well. Enjoying the lovely garden, we both suddenly realized: “This is where we would like to live”. And so it happened. Corrie and Ron, wanted to pass the baton to us.
ENJOYING LIFE TOGETHER WITH OUR GUESTS
And now we live in the heart of France in those beautiful surroundings with plenty of peace and quiet. We can do endless gardening, something we didn’t have much time for in the Netherlands with our busy jobs. Now it is part of our existence. We can cook together and dine with a good glass of wine in our garden with ever-changing guests.
WHY THE NAME VEÏ LOU QUÉRI?
The previous owners came up with this name with a sense of history. The little river La Creuse used to be the border between two old French languages, langue d’oc and langue d’oil. Thus on one side of the river, the shepherd would say to his dog “Vai la quare!” and on the other side of the river you would hear “Veï Lou Quéri!”, which in both cases means “Get them in!”. In other words, the sheep and cows. The nod to the guests was quick, hence the name. We are happy to continue that tradition.
